Title The question of selective employment tax (SET) charges in respect of private contractors' work on behalf of US military authorities in United Kingdom (1970)
Description The UK's aim is to ensure the maintenance of the US's commitment to Europe. The UK sees the most important action is to avoid an adverse or discouraging effect on the formulation of the Administration's policy to contribute to the defence of Europe. Congressional pressure to cut defence spending may weaken the Administration policy and the UK taxing the US contribution to the defence of Europe may contribute to further Congressional pressure for a withdrawal of US forces from Europe.
